Bar Pepito opened on Friday 19th March across the courtyard from Camino in King's Cross. It is a small Andalusian 'bodega' specializing in a range of the most exciting styles of sherry, and mixes the best traditions from Jerez with a refreshing up to date approach.
The bar was conceived with terrific support from our friends over at Gonzalez Byass, one of the biggest and most prestigious wine houses based in the heart of Jerez. We have all hurled ourselves with maximum enthusiasm at this project, including several reconnaissance trips to this special part of Spain, as if we needed the excuse.
Here at Camino we love this unique wine for its extraordinary flavours and differing styles – from the driest wines in the world to the sweetest – and its unbeatable food-matching qualities.
Sherry can only be made in this region of Andalusia in the southernmost part of Spain, due to the particular combination of 'albariza' soil, fantastic climate (300 days of sunshine per year), the predominant ‘palomino’ grape, and 'solera' system that allows the wine to slowly age in a unique way.
The menu from Camino's head chef Nacho del Campo (left) is incisive, covering the out-and-out classics of the best olives, almonds and hand-carved ‘jamón’ with a few contemporary twists.
As at Camino, all the food is 100% sustainable.
Sherry ‘flights’ are available in a range of three 50ml shots of styles for comparison, each served with a bite of something suitable from the menu.
